With the main topic “No likes for lies! Recognize extremism, populism and deepfakes online”, the EU initiative klicksafe is calling for participation in Safer Internet Day 2025 nationwide on February 11.
What skills do young people need to critically classify manipulative content on social media? How can they be empowered to recognize false information as well as populist and extremist narratives? To mark Safer Internet Day, Teachtoday invites Lidia de Reese (Media Education Officer at the Voluntary Self-Regulation Body for Multimedia Service Providers (FSM)) to the talk “Served up: The menu for your news check”.
The interview with Lidia de Reese is about disinformation online and its influence on children and young people. They discuss how young people consume news, why they are particularly susceptible to misinformation and what role social media and AI play in this. There will also be practical tips on how parents and professionals can help to identify falsehoods and promote critical thinking.
