Alliance against online hate

The Council of Europe has launched a campaign, the "No Hate Speech Movement," advocating against hatred and discrimination on the Internet.

Online racism and discrimination can be only countered if we raise public awareness of this issue and reduce the social acceptance of hate speech. This youth campaign combats hate speech on the web in all its forms. It strives to spark young people’s interest in political life and online civil rights issues.

It points out the dangers of hate speech for democracy as well as individuals. It presents participants with constructive ways to deal with hate speech and supports them in their commitments to human rights – on the Internet and in real life.

Targeted promotion of media and Internet literacy should enable young people, after all, not only to avoid cyberbullying and online hate but to actively oppose both, regardless of whether it’s them who are affected or anyone else.
